Celebrating Scottish Albums On An International Stage, live from Paisley Town Hall

Anna Meredith looks happily bewildered as she collects her well-deserved prize, a national celebration of her stunning album, Varmints, as winner of the Scottish Album of the Year (SAY) Award 2016. The Inner Ear stream team were at the SAY Award ceremony (as we have been each year) to film the show and broadcast it online to the world.

Moving to a new location, thanks to the invitation and support of Renfrewshire Council, we made good use of the grand surrounds of the historic Paisley Town Hall. Striving the strike the balance, as ever, between getting the best coverage possible while not intruding on the event. Paisley Town Hall is a good venue to work in, partly because of it’s decor and layout and also due to the very helpful nature of the staff. We had one operated camera plus one static camera in the gallery, a camera on a jib in front of the stage and a roaming field (RF) wireless camera on the floor.

Our sound mix included a feed from front of house audio plus an array of wireless mics that our sound engineer rigged around the venue. We also took a feed of the VT feature packages that preceded each shortlist prize-giving.

Live performances on the night were of the usual high calibre. The 2015 winner, the beguiling Kathryn Joseph, opened the show. Bossy Love commanded the room with her electronic soul, White rocked the building’s foundations and Treacherous Orchestra took the roof off.

And how many people did we reach? About 25,000 unique viewers, with an average duration watched of 10 minutes. Working with the SAY Award marketing team and the media team at our favoured streaming platform Livestream, we targeted audiences in USA, Canada and around Europe with an interest in the Scottish music scene. We also worked with several publications and music blogs who hosted the live stream video player on their websites.

Ceremonies are a great type of show to live stream. We’ve produced live programmes from many similar events over the years. Get in touch to discuss how we can help you reach your target audience, wherever they are.
