Live Streaming: The Glasgow School of Art Reid Building Launch

To mark the official opening of it’s newly built Reid Building, The Glasgow School of Art asked Inner Ear to provide a live stream for two very special events.

The first of these was the inaugural lecture which took place in the Reid Auditorium on the eve of the building’s public opening. Steven Holl and Chris McVoy of Steven Holl Architects, New York led the highly-anticipated lecture, covering the organisation’s history of artist collaborations as well as several art institutional projects, including the Reid Building at The Glasgow School of Art. Inner Ear streamed the entire event live to provide further audience capacity to two additional GSA venues – Principal Seminar Room 1, and the Vic Bar, and also to make the talk available online to anyone interested and unable to attend. A 15—20 minute question and answer session followed the talk, hosted by Janice Kirkpatrick of Graven Images and answering questions both live and submitted in advance.

The second of these live streams provided by Inner Ear was the official public opening of the brand new Glasgow School of Art Reid Building.

The event itself was a private celebration for current staff and students of the School, and the video stream allowed viewers all over the world to join the GSA live in the setting off of The Rube Goldberg Machine by VIP guests (including Robbie Coltrane and Muriel Gray) – representatives of past, present and future students of the GSA. This collaborative machine comprised sections dreamed up by staff and students from across the School, reflecting some of the idiosyncratic features of the GSA and the Reid Building itself, and how these come together as a whole.
