Hands-on Online Promotion is the title of the seminar Inner Ear’s Dougal Perman and Andy McColgan are going to deliver at Amb:IT:ion Scotland’s Getting Digital Roadshow on Thursday 10 June at William Robertson Building, University of Edinburgh.

Inner Ear’s workshop presents an overview on how to use free online tools to help you market your organisation effectively through social media. Use digital media tools to communicate your message through social networks. Spread the word, increase awareness and reach new audiences.

In this hour long introduction to marketing the arts using social media, Inner Ear will guide you through a series of practical examples of how to use blogs, services like Issuu, YouTube and Flickr as well as platforms such as Facebook and Twitter with reference to RSS, tags and embeddable media. At the end of the seminar you will be given access to a Delicious feed and this step-by-step guide with many links to useful references and further information:

In addition to Inner Ear’s workshop are two other practical sessions in Intellectual Property from Intellectual Assets Centre, Digital Video from New Media Scotland and Webcasting from Envirodigital.

The day will also feature keynote speaker, Bill Thompson, BBC technology journalist and radio presenter, and Head of Partnerships at BBC Archive. Martin Reynolds and Faith Liddell of Festivals Edinburgh talk about their digital development journey, highlighting the lessons learned. Katy Beale, freelance social media consultant will present a case study of how she worked with the Tate to develop their Twitter social media strategy which has resulted in Tate now having over 100,000 Twitter followers. Plus an interview with Fiona Stewart, Creative Director of AmbItion Involved organisation, The Lot, and Lot audience member, Muriel MacKenzie.
