We have worked with Tennent’s Lager for a number of years on various music related activities, been involved in productions around T Break at T in the Park and have helped produce visuals and music for some of their different promotional campaigns. The latest venture, dreamed up by our very creative friends at Bright Signals, we were especially excited to be a central part of as it involves two of our greatest passions, music and video production.
At Inner Ear we have years of experience working with music and music related productions, from running our own internet radio station Radio Magnetic since 2001 — to shooting music videos — to live streaming annual popular music events such as The SAY Award and Glenfiddich Piping Championships and having a team of passionate music lovers, DJs and artists in their own right.
The concept for this new series of videos was to bring a diverse selection of Scottish music artists together for one on one, head to head or ‘Tete-A-Tete’ informal discussions in front of camera. As soon as we heard about the project, we jumped at the opportunity to produce it, with our wide variety of connections across the music industry and passion for filming and producing great products on behalf of brands.
The first discussion we had the pleasure of producing involved two huge Scottish artists from very different worlds. We had Stuart Braithwaite, co-founder of legendary post-rock outfit Mogwai paired up with Alloysious Massaquoi of Young Fathers, a group who have made great waves in the global music scene of late, winning both The SAY Award and Mercury Prize in 2014. The differences in musical backgrounds made for an engaging discussion, and the video we produced from the casual chat can now be watched on YouTube.

After this successful shoot in our studios’ local bar DISTILL in Finnieston, Glasgow and a subsequent successful edit, we were tasked with the next production for the series. This time we had the pleasure of filming a friendly chat between two popular young Scottish bands, Errors (on the shortlist for this 2015 Scottish Album of the Year Award) and We Were Promised Jetpacks. The two guys from the bands, Steev Livingston from Glasgow based electronic rock band Errors and Mike Palmer from Edinburgh outfit WWPJ, got on really well on the day and shared some musical experiences, inspirations and more in front of our cameras.

The most recent production in the Tete-A-Tete series was close to our production hearts as it featured a good old friend of Radio Magnetic and huge global DJ, Jackmaster in conversation with another global artist who has worked closely with Inner Ear and RM for over a decade, DJ and rap producer S-Type. As well as them being two of our good mates, they’re also two very funny individuals with lots of entertaining stories and healthy levels of banter between the pair, both in front and away from the cameras. Everything from the Jurassic Park soundtrack to after party clarinet escapades and awful gig moments comes into the hilariously entertaining discussion. We were delighted when Fact Magazine wanted to pick this up as two artists who are very popular amongst their readership, we knew this would guaranteed our production would reach a significantly size audience of very interested individuals.
